Welcome to the fam, Evil Felipe

If you know anything about the Five By Two family, you can imagine how elated I was when I first heard about this young group of women, some barely or not quite into their teens. It was a joy to know that, like my daughters, there were other young women out there making music on their own, saying ‘fuck you’ to traditions of male-driven angst and loud noises, ripping the mic from the clutches of male-dominated rock music culture and singing their own songs of heartache, of dreams, of fun and joy not distorted or tainted by any male influence. While I don’t begrudge or dismiss the power and merit of musicianship from any human of any chosen gender, it is refreshing to experience the purity of music that stems from the heart of groups of women doing it on their own.

I knew very little about the band at the time I first booked them for a show, just hoping that they could bring the musical chops and stage presence to the next show to entertain and excite the small but dedicated crowds of local music fans I had been steadily growing with my all ages shows.

And they brought it.

And it was a joy to behold.

That first show started a burgeoning relationship with my family that remains to this day, especially amongst the girls, as they’ve shared laughs and hopes and dreams and complaints and memes and songs and favorite artists.

And today, they’ll share a label.

It is with the greatest of joys that we announce today that Evil Felipe will join Circus Trees and Pillbook PLBK and Geskle and The Light Inside Me Is Dead on the Five By Two Records label, our little socialist collective of artists supporting each other in every way they know how.

And soon, very soon, you’re going to be able to hear a brand new EP from the band, recorded, mixed and mastered in our studio by the one and only Aaron Garcia.

Welcome to the fam, Evils, we’re so glad you’re here.
